Join natural history artist James Winrow on this inspirational one day workshop introducing the techniques and tools he uses to capture the character and delicate beauty of birds.

Drawing has been used for thousands of years to record, observe, celebrate and honour the natural world around us. This bird portrait workshop enables you to experience this ancient tradition using modern materials and techniques.

18th May - Working exclusively with the mineral of graphite, James will show you how to craft a stunning portrait of a bird in a natural history illustration style. Using freehand and scientific illustration techniques, you will learn basic and advanced methods of applying graphite, and go through the process of creating a detailed illustration from start to finish.

22nd June and 13th July - You will learn how to study and draw birds in the field, distilling their essential form quickly onto paper. This process of observing and drawing forms a deep connection with the subject and will teach you a lot about the bird.

You will leave with a beautiful bird portrait and a deeper appreciation and understanding of the depth and richness of the natural world around us - a renewed sense of wonder!
