Men's Health Month
Every day we should be checking in with our loved ones, however, November marks Men's Health Month and sharing this awareness and reminder is imperative to those we are closest to. And to making a difference in mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Did you know that:
4506 men died by suicide in 2023 in the UK and 40% of men don't like to talk about it or 14% feel they have no one to talk to(Samaritans)
What can be done about it?
Whether it is obvious or not, you can't always tell when someone is struggling so check in with your father, brother, husband, work colleague and friends. Be the person to open up that conversation, especially among male friendship groups. It's okay to talk about how life stresses are affecting you regardless of your gender. Take that time out from the banter to talk on a more deeper level. Or just let the men in your life know you are there for them when needed.
If you feel that you are struggling or you know someone is struggling and you need more support, please contact the Samaritans
Did you know that:
Around 1200 men in the UK die every year to prostrate cancer and 65 men die every year on average to testicular cancer (Cancer Research UK)
What can be done about it?
Prostrate cancer is more common in men over the age of 45 and early stages don't always show symptoms so go check in with you doctor. Making that appointment is one of the hardest parts but hey, you got this! Make this part of your yearly health check, make it the norm. And if you are not quite there yet, then call your doctors for advice and guidance. Get those worries and concerns put to bed so you can go to your appointment with no reservations.
Know your nuts! 30 seconds of your day could save your life. Make checking yourself part of your shower routine. Testicular cancer is the #1 cancer in younger guys, however, if caught early enough, can be highly curable.
