Assistant Ranger Volunteer Placement

East Devon District Council’s Countryside Team is recruiting a part‑time Volunteer Assistant Ranger for a 12-month placement, volunteering 2–4 days per week.
Working alongside our Ranger team, you’ll support habitat management and wildlife surveying across nature reserves in East Devon. Tasks may include wetland, heathland, woodland and grassland management; hedge laying; species surveys; visitor engagement, education, and events; charcoal production; and maintaining tools, machinery and site infrastructure.
Training provided includes:
- Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Brushcutters and Trimmers
- Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross‑Cutting
- Outdoor Emergency First Aid
Reasonable travel expenses, uniform and PPE are provided. The role is ideal for those beginning a conservation career or seeking a career change.
Essential: passion for nature, physical fitness, ability to follow instructions and work safely.
Desirable: UK driving licence, relevant qualification or experience.
