Blue Tit feeding on a bird feeder

We all love feeding birds and we feel lucky to enjoy them in our gardens, parks and nature reserves. We all want to help provide a place where all wildlife can thrive. However, disease is affecting our garden bird populations.
The good news is you can support birds by feeding them carefully and responsibly:

Feed seasonally

  • From 1 May to 31 October, please don’t put out seeds or peanuts.
  • Small amounts of mealworms, fat balls or suet are fine.
  • From November to April, a wider range of bird food can be offered.

At the Wetlands

  • Please don’t use the same feeding spot regularly – move around to avoid build-up.
  • Only leave small amounts of food.
  • If there’s already a small pile, please don’t add more.
  • No seeds should be left between April and October.

Feed safely at home

  • Keep feeders and water clean.
  • Avoid leaving out damp or uneaten food.
  • Put out only what birds will eat quickly.

Thank you for helping us look after our wildlife 🌿
