Local residents and dogs are invited to discover Clyst Meadows, a new £3.4m green space at Broadclyst Station, at a free open day on Saturday 10 October, from 10am to 3pm. 

Visitors can explore 10 hectares of open fields and nature-rich countryside, with dogs very welcome off lead across the securely fenced site. The day will offer a chance to experience the new space, meet some of the people involved and find out more about future activities and volunteering. 

Clyst Meadows will give our growing population more choice of outdoor places to visit, helping to reduce pressure on important wildlife at East Devon Pebblebed Heaths and Exe Estuary. Clyst Meadows has been funded from planning contributions and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), with Shared Prosperity Funding for the first part of the Station Road to Mosshayne Lane cycle route. The total budget for Clyst Meadows is approximately £3.4M, including a £1.1M investment which is planned to fund the management of the site for at least 80 years. 

Clyst Meadows has been designed as a place for people, dogs and nature. A surfaced walking route provides year-round access for all, while benches, picnic tables and cycle parking make it easy to pause, meet friends and enjoy the outdoors. 

The small on-site car park has 16 spaces, including two disabled parking spaces. 

Visitors are encouraged to travel on foot or by bike where possible and to use the site respectfully. Dog owners should keep their dogs in sight and under close control, prevent them from chasing wildlife or grazing animals, and bag and bin dog waste. 

Cllr Geoff Jung, East Devon District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment Operations, said: “Clyst Meadows is a fantastic new place for local people to walk, spend time together and connect with nature. We are delighted to invite residents to the open day and hope people of all ages — and their dogs — will come along, explore the meadows and make this special green space part of their everyday lives.” 

Clyst Meadows forms part of the Clyst Valley Regional Park. It is owned by East Devon District Council and will be managed by the East Devon Countryside Team, Wild East Devon, in partnership with Broadclyst Parish Council.
