NIghtjar Walk

Take part in fascinating events as part of the Countryside team’s Wild East Devon’s events programme. From ‘Bat and Nightjar Walks’ and ‘Moth and Muffin Mornings’, there’s something for all nature and countryside enthusiasts.

The year-round Wild East Devon events programme provides residents and visitors with the chance to experience wildlife up-close. Led by the team of knowledgeable Countryside Rangers, each event is designed to educate, inspire, and uncover the remarkable and often rare species that call this incredible area home.

Upcoming events include a series of Bat Walks. Using a bat detector participants will listen for bat calls and learn about the 14 species which have been recorded at Seaton Wetlands, including the very rare Bechstein’s and Grey-Long Eared bat species.

New to this year’s programme are the Moth and Muffin Mornings. Often overlooked in favour of day-flying butterflies, this event will provide attendees with the chance to discover the beauty of moths and the staggering diversity of species found at Seaton Wetlands.

A series of Nightjar Walks will take place at Trinity Hill. During the dusk walk attendees will learn about the rare ground-nesting nightjar, looking out for this beautiful bird as it hunts for prey and listen for its distinctive churring call.

Other upcoming event highlights include:

Willow Garden Owl, Saturday 7 June, Seaton Wetlands

Spoon Carving for Beginners, Saturday 14 June, Seaton Wetlands

Seaton Wetlands Summer Holiday Club, Monday 4 – Friday 8 August, Seaton Wetlands

Cllr Richard Jefferies, Portfolio Holder for Environment - Nature and Climate said: “The Countryside team’s popular Wild East Devon events programme is a fantastic way for people to experience wildlife and to learn what makes East Devon’s nature reserves such special habitats.”

James Chubb, Countryside Manager, said: “This year’s events programme is more packed than ever! From traditional crafts such as willow weaving and spoon carving to immersive wildlife experiences, there’s something for everyone – plus there’s more events yet to be announced! These events provide the Countryside team with the chance to showcase East Devon’s nature reserves which our team and volunteers work hard to protect.”
