Seaton Wetlands Shortlisted for Three Best of the Best Awards
The Countryside Team are proud to announce that Seaton Wetlands has been shortlisted for three prestigious Green Flag Best of the Best Awards.
The Green Flag Award recognises parks and green spaces that meet high standards in management, maintenance, and community involvement. Once again, Seaton Wetlands has been recognised for its management and visitor experience, offering exceptional benefits to the community and wildlife.
This year, Seaton Wetlands has also been shortlisted in three categories for the Best of the Best awards, acknowledging its achievements in community engagement, health promotion, and conservation:
Best Volunteer Team:
Lesley and Pete Clarke have been recognized for their outstanding contribution to Seaton Wetlands. Since the Discovery Hut opened in 2012, they have dedicated every Monday to welcoming visitors with enthusiasm and sharing their wildlife expertise. Whether explaining the habits of nesting kestrels, showcasing unique finds on the nature table, or discussing recent osprey sightings, their passion for local wildlife inspires and captivates visitors of all ages.
Best Health Initiative:
The collaboration with Age UK Devon Outdoor Group supports the well-being of older adults through outdoor activities at Seaton Wetlands. Relaunched in early 2023, the initiative has welcomed over 80 participants, helping to reduce loneliness and isolation while promoting the health benefits of spending time in nature.
Best Habitat/Biodiversity Project:
Seaton Wetlands has been home to a number of breeding successes over the years. In June 2023, Seaton Wetlands celebrated Devon’s first-ever record of breeding avocets, marking a significant milestone in conservation. Their return in 2024 highlights the site's critical role in providing habitat and protecting vulnerable bird species.
These nominations showcase Seaton Wetlands' vital contributions to conservation, community involvement, and health promotion. The winners of the Best of the Best Awards will be announced during a virtual ceremony on November 14.
