Seaton Wetlands Launches Guide in the Hide
Visitors to Seaton Wetlands can learn more about what there is to see at the Nature Reserve at a program of new ‘Guide in the Hide’ events.
Beginning on Monday 28 October, and running bi-weekly from 10am to 12pm at the Island Hide, volunteer guides will be on hand to help visitors spot and identify birds using scopes and binoculars.
Autumn is an ideal time for birdwatching at Seaton Wetlands, as migrating birds such as lapwing, redshank, godwit, and dunlin arrive or pass through on their journey to seek a warmer habitat and plentiful food supply for the winter. There’s also the chance to see rarer species like ruff, wimbrel, wood sandpiper and little stint.
After visiting the hide, attendees can warm up with a hot drink and refreshments served at the Discovery Hut.
The upcoming Guide in the Hide dates are:
- October 28
- November 11
- November 25
- December 9
- December 23
Families with children are welcome to attend Guide in the Hide events, and there are also special Guide in the Hide for Kids events planned for half-term and weekends. During these bookable sessions spotter sheets will be provided to encourage an interest in birdwatching and wildlife amongst younger visitors.
Upcoming Guide in the Hide for Kids dates are:
- October 29
- November 9
- November 23
Dates for 2025 will be announced on the Wild East Devon website and social media channels - Facebook, Instagram and X. You can also subscribe to their newsletter for updates.
These events are delivered by our fantastic team of volunteers.
