Wild East Devon Charcoal 

Charcoal

Produced in small batches, Wild East Devon Charcoal is sustainably produced using wood harvested locally from our nature reserves during habitat management. 

We collect and store trees that have blocked footpaths or are causing a potential hazard, material removed from hedgerows, and by-products of traditional woodland management. If we can’t leave the wood onsite to benefit nature, we collect and store it for charcoal production.

How it's made

Once split and dried, the wood is processed in our Exeter Retort. In comparison to traditional kilns, the retort
